Needles: set of 5 double-pointed 5 mm or size needed to obtain the gauge
Gauge: 17 stitches and 23 rounds in stockinette stitch = 10 cm

Abbreviations:
st(s), k, yo – stitch(es), knit, yarn over
2yo – yarn over twice; on the next round the first of these stitches is knitted as usual, the second is knitted throught the back loop
pu-k3 – pick up and knit the indicated amount of stitches
k-twL – knit a twisted stitch with a slope to the left: knit through the back loop of a stitch
k-twR – knit a twisted stitch with a slope to the right: slip a stitch knitwise, place it back on the left needle, then knit it
k2tR – knit 2 together with a slope to the right: insert the right needle knitwise into next 2 stitches at once and knit them together as if they were one stitch

Mitten
The mitten is worked in rounds. Cast on 6+10+5+9=30 stitches dividing them over 4 needles as directed, use long-tail cast-on and work over two needles held together to get an elastic edge. Make sure that the cast-on edge is not twisted and using the fourth needle (the one with 9 stitches) knit 1 stitch from the first needle (the one with 6 stitches). / 5+10+5+10=30 sts
Round 1: k30.
Round 2: { k2tR, yo, k1, yo, k2tL } 6 times. / 5+10+5+10=30 sts
Rounds 3-14: Repeat rounds 1-2.

Thumb
The thumb is knitted using 8 stitches held on waste yarn, 4 stitches picked up along the cast-on edge on round 29, and 4 extra stitches picked up between the held stitches and the cast-on stitches – 2 stitches on each side of the thumb. The extra stitches are knitted twisted on the first round and knitted together with neighbouring stitches on the second round. Work in rounds.
Rounds 1-2 for right thumb: Start by picking up 2 stitches between the held stitches and the cast-on stitches on the left side of thumb opening.
Round 1: pu-k2-twR, pu-k4, pu-k2-twL, k7, k2tL.
Round 2: k2tR, k2, k2tL, k2tR, k7. / 12 sts
Rounds 1-2 for left thumb: Start by picking up the last stitch on the cast-on edge.
Round 1: pu-k1, pu-k2-twL, k8, pu-k2-twR, pu-k3, k2tL.
Round 2: k2tR, k6, k2tL, k2tR, k3. / 12 sts
