23. Cuff Mittens With a Lace "Bracelet"

Yarn: 75 % wool, 100 g = approx 200 m

Needles: set of 5 double-pointed 4 mm or size needed to obtain the gauge
Gauge: 21 stitches and 28 rounds in stockinette stitch = 10 cm

Mitten
The mitten is worked in rounds. Cast on 16+15+15+14=60 stitches dividing them over 4 needles as directed, use long-tail cast-on and work over two needles held together to get an elastic edge. Make sure that the cast-on edge is not twisted and using the fourth needle (the one with 14 stitches) knit 1 stitch from the first needle (the one with 16 stitches). / 15+15+15+15=60 sts

Rounds 3-22: Knit.

Thumb
The thumb is knitted using 11 stitches held on waste yarn, 3 stitches picked up along the cast-on edge on round 51, and 4 extra stitches picked up between the held stitches and the cast-on stitches – 2 stitches on each side of the thumb. The extra stitches are knitted twisted on the first round and knitted together with neighbouring stitches on the second round. Work in rounds.
Rounds 1-2 for right thumb: Start by picking up 2 stitches between the held stitches and the cast-on stitches on the left side of thumb opening.
Round 1: pu-k2-tw, pu-k3, pu-k2-tw, k10, k2tL.
Round 2: k2tR, k1, k2tL, k2tR, k10. / 14 sts
Rounds 1-2 for left thumb: Start by picking up the last stitch on the cast-on edge.
Round 1: pu-k1, pu-k2-tw, k11, pu-k2-tw, pu-k2, k2tL.
Round 2: k2tR, k9, k2tL, k2tR, k2. / 14 sts
Rounds 3-15: Knit. / 14 sts
