The thumb is knitted using 10 stitches held on waste yarn, 4 stitches picked up along the cast-on edge on round 75, and 2 stitches picked up between the held stitches and the cast-on stitches – 1 stitch on each side of the thumb. It makes 16 stitches. Work in rounds. Start by picking up 1 stitch between the held stitches and the cast-on stitches on the left side of thumb opening for right thumb, and on the right side of thumb opening for left thumb.

The cuff, the foot and the toe of the sock are worked in rounds and the heel in rows. Both socks are worked in the same way. Cast on and work the first 19 rounds as described for the mitten. Continue to work 14 rounds in stockinette and then work the heel.
The heel is worked using 12 stitches from first needle, 1 stitch from second needle and 12 stitches from fourth needle. It makes 25 stitches, arrange them so that you have 13 stitches on first needle and 12 stitches on fourth needle. The bottom of the heel is worked using 9 stitches.

Round 13: { k2, k2tR, k1, k2, k2tL, k1 } twice. / 4+4+4+4= 16 sts
Round 14: { k3tR, 1r, 2r, k2tL } twice. / 2+3+2+3= 10 sts
There are 10 stitches left – 5 on each side of the foot. Graft the stitches together with the kitchener stitch. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
