37. Mittens In Rosy-Green Pattern

Yarn: 100 % wool, 100 g = approx 200 m
Yarn Amount: green – approx 45 g, rosy – approx 55 g
Needles: set of 5 double-pointed 3,5 or size needed to obtain the gauge
Gauge: 23 stitches and 56 rounds in pattern = 10 cm

Abbreviations:
st(s), k, p – stitch(es), knit, purl
k-tw – knit a twisted stitch: knit through the back loop of a stitch
pu-k3 – pick up and knit the indicated amount of stitches
slip 2 – move the indicated amount of stitches from the left needle onto the right needle, hold the yarn on the back side of the work
k2tR – knit 2 together with a slope to the right: insert the right needle knitwise into next 2 stitches at once and knit them together as if they were one stitch
k2tL – knit 2 together with a slope to the left: slip 2 stitches one at a time knitwise, place them back on the left needle, then knit them together through the back loops as if they were one stitch
p2t – purl 2 together: insert the right needle purlwise into 2 stitches at once and purl them together as if they were one stitch
ilR – increase by lifting a stitch from the right side: lift the stitch one row below the next stitch and knit it

Mitten
The mitten is worked in rounds. Cast on 21+10+20+9=60 stitches dividing them over 4 needles as directed, use long-tail cast-on and work over two needles held together to get an elastic edge. Make sure that the cast-on edge is not twisted and using the fourth needle (the one with 9 stitches) knit 1 stitch from the first needle (the one with 21 stitches). / 20+10+20+10=60 sts
Round 1(C1): p60.
Round 2(C1): k60.
Round 3(C1): { k2tL, k2, ilR, k1, k1, ilL, k2, k2tR } 6 times. / 20+10+20+10=60 sts
Rounds 4-5(C1): Repeat round 3.

Cut the yarn and thread it through the remaining stitches. Pull it firmly to tighten the opening, fasten off on the inside and weave in the end.
Thumb
The thumb is knitted using 8 stitches held on waste yarn, 8 stitches picked up along the cast-on edge on round 67, and 2 extra stitches picked up between the held stitches and the cast-on stitches – 1 stitches on each side of the thumb. The extra stitches are knitted twisted on the first round and knitted together with neighbouring stitches on the second round. Work in rounds with color C2.
Rounds 1-2 for left thumb: Start by picking up 1 stitch between the held stitches and the cast-on stitches on the right side of thumb opening.
Round 1: pu-k1-tw, k8, pu-k1-tw, pu-k8. / 18 sts
Round 2: k2tR, k6, k2tL, k8. / 16 sts
Rounds 1-2 for right thumb: Start by picking up 8 stitches along the cast-on edge.
Round 1: pu-k8, pu-k1-tw, k8, pu-k1-tw. / 18 sts
Round 2: k8, k2tR, k6, k2tL. / 16 sts
Rounds 3-18: k16.
Round 19: { k1, k2tR, k2, k2tL, k1 } twice. / 12 sts
Round 20: k12.

Close the opening using the same method as described for the mitten. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Mitten
