Mitten
The mitten is worked in continuous rounds. Mark the first stitch on each round so that you know where a new round begins. All single crochet stitches are worked in back loop, except those on round 1. First stitch on next rounds is always worked in first stitch on previous round. While working a round in two colors, work over the unused yarn. The color changing is made in the last stitch before the change – skip the last step of the stitch leaving two loops on hook. Change the colors as indicated in the chart.
Round 1: Attach a new yarn and work 2 sc around the edging chains before the first bobble. Work then 1 sc into the base of the first bobble, that is into the chain where dc- and tr-stitches were worked. Continue to work 3 sc around the edging chains between the bobbles and 1 sc into the base of the bobbles. After the last bobble work only 1 sc around the last chain stitch on the edging round. Continue then to work the next round directly. / 56 sc
Round 2: 56 sc. Starting with this round all single crochet stitches are worked into back loop.
Rounds 3-22: Repeat round 2, change the colors as indicated in the chart.
Round 23 for left mitten: 20 sc, ch 4, sk 12, 24 sc. / 48 sts
Round 23 for right mitten: 25 sc, ch 4, sk 12, 19 sc. / 48 sts
Round 24: 48 sc.
Rounds 25-42: Repeat round 24, change the colors as indicated in the chart.
Round 43: { 1 sc, [2 sc], 19 sc, [2 sc] } twice. / 44 sts
Round 44: { 1 sc, [2 sc], 17 sc, [2 sc] } twice. / 40 sts
Round 45: { 1 sc, [2 sc], 15 sc, [2 sc] } twice. / 36 sts
Round 46: { 1 sc, [2 sc], 13 sc, [2 sc ] } twice. / 32 sts
Round 47: { 1 sc, [2 sc], 11 sc, [2 sc] } twice. / 28 sts
Round 48: { 1 sc, [2 sc], 9 sc, [2 sc] } twice. / 24 sts
Round 49: { 1 sc, [2 sc], 7 sc, [2 sc] } twice. / 20 sts
Round 50: { 1 sc, [2 sc], 5 sc, [2 sc] } twice. / 16 sts
Round 51: { 1 sc, [2 sc], 3 sc, [2 sc] } twice. / 12 sts
Leave the remaining loop on the hook. Pick up 6 loops by inserting the hook in 1st to 6th single crochet stitches on the last round and pulling up the yarn through these stitches like in Tunisian crochet. Move all loops onto double-pointed needle. Pick up 6 loops more in the same way inserting the hook in 7th to 12th sc. When picking up the loops insert the hook under the back loop of stitches. Cut the yarn, thread it through all loops and pull it firmly to tighten the opening. Fasten off on the inside and weave in the end.
Thumb
Start crocheting the thumb on right side of the thumb opening for left mitten, and on left side of the thumb opening for right mitten. The thumb is worked in rounds in the same way as the mitten.
Round 1 for left thumb: Attach the yarn in the middle of 20th sc on round 23 and work 1 sc into the same stitch, 12 sc in 21:st to 32:nd sc on round 22, 1 sc into the middle of first sc after chains on round 23, 4 sc in chains on round 23. / 18 sc
Round 1 for right thumb: Attach the yarn in the middle of first sc after chains on round 23 and work 1 sc into the same stitch, 4 sc in chains on round 23, 1 sc in the middle of 25th sc on round 23, 12 sc in 26th to 37th sc on round 22. / 18 sc
Round 2: 18 sc.
