Leave the remaining loop on the hook. Pick up 6 loops by inserting the hook in 2nd to 7th double crochet stitches on the last round and pulling up the yarn through these stitches like in Tunisian crochet. Move all loops onto double-pointed needle. Pick up 7 loops more in the same way inserting the hook in 8th to 14th dc. Cut the yarn, thread it through all loops and pull it firmly to tighten the opening. Fasten off on the inside and weave in the end.
Thumb
Start crocheting the thumb on right side of the thumb opening for left mitten, and on left side of the thumb opening for right mitten. The thumb is worked in rounds in the same way as the mitten. While working into stitches on round 14 insert the hook into the bottom of stitches under at least 2 threads.
